First of all, you need to remember that installing drywall panels as walls or ceilings for your home is not that hard to do. However, this is only half the battle. You still have to know about taping and applying compound on to the drywall you installed. This is very important as this will adjust the finished product that you will be left with.

When it comes to drywall installation, knowing how to correctly apply the mud is very important.

So, here are some things that you have to remember when you are going to start applying mud on to your drywall.

The first thing that you have to keep in mind is that you have to know about the compounds and tools.

Like in any do it yourself projects, preparation is the key in order for you to become successful. You need to be patient in order for you to get used to the tools and the equipments that is often used when installing and mudding drywalls. By being patient, you will be able to learn the different techniques that you will be using when installing and finishing drywalls. And, with patience, you will end up with a great looking final product.

You need to keep in mind that there are basically two types of jointing compound. The first is the powder and there are also pre-mixed compounds that you can use. You will find that different compounds are available in different textures. Taping compounds are coarser and commonly used after taping. Topping compounds are finer and this is used for producing a smooth wall. This is basically used for finishing. There are also all purpose compounds which can be used to do the entire job.

To apply the drywall mud on to the drywall, you will need to use taping knives. The knives are available in different lengths and sizes, which will be able to accommodate your needs when it comes to applying mud.

You need to remember that before you apply the compound, you need to make sure that all the nails and screws are sunk just below the surface of the drywall. This is to ensure that they dont stick out. You can check if this is done properly by running a knife along the seams. If it hits any nails or screws, then you have to tap the nail or screw in the screws a little deeper.

There are four basic steps to apply mud on to the drywall. Each of the steps will require an entire day to finish, which basically means that you will get the job done in four days.
The first step is to apply the first layer, which is the taping later. You first apply the compound and then tape over the joints by using jointing tape. After this, you can apply another thin layer of compound. After this stage, you will be left with a level surface without any holes.

Next, you have to apply the other two layers of compound. These two layers are done in order to make the texture of the wall smoother. For this, you will need to use a longer taping knife than the previous steps.

The final coat is the finishing coat of compound. This will make the walls very smooth. Always remember that you need at least a day to get the compound to dry off. Because you will need to do four layers of compound, it will take you 4 days to finish the entire project. So, be patient about it and it will definitely pay off.

If you ask anyone who installs drywalls professionally, they will tell you that installing it is almost an art. You have to remember that installing drywalls is not as simple as hammering nails in it in order to install it. Its much more complicated than that and it will take you years before you actually perfect the process of installing drywalls and really get a great and professionally looking finish.

As a do it yourselfer, you need to keep in mind that installing drywalls can be done even without extensive experience. Its not that hard but there are some things that you have to know about the process in order for you to do it without making lots of costly mistakes.

The first thing that you have to keep in mind is to have everything that you need before you start. You have to have the tools and equipments that you need before you start installing the drywall. For this kind of project, you will need several things, such as joint compound, hand knife spreader, joint tape, application knife, and bread pan. You will also need a corner taping tool.

Once you have the tools that you need, you are now ready to start installing your drywall.

Another tip that you have to keep in mind is that the drywall demands precise measurement. You also need to make sure that every panel you install is tightly secured to the supports or the foundations that it is nailed to. Besides, there is nothing more embarrassing to have your newly installed drywalls fall down all of a sudden when you are entertaining visitors around your home.

You also have to remember that the nails you use should be long enough in order to keep the panels secured on their supports. You can also use screws if you want or you can use them in conjunction with the nails to provide more support.

When installing drywall, you have to remember that mixing the cement or mud to the right consistency is essential. The consistency of the mix should be like icing on a cake and it shouldnt be too stiff or too loose. To check for its consistency, scoop up some drywall mud with a trowel and hold the trowel upside down. The mud should not fall down when you do this. And, when applying the cement or mud in to the drywall joints, it shouldnt take too much effort or you should be able to do this easily.

You also have to remember that when you are on the process of mixing the mud, do not whip the cement. The whipping action will attract air in to the mud, which can form bubbles when you apply it in the drywall seams.

Another great tip that you may want to remember when it comes to finishing drywalls is to use mesh tape instead of paper tape. Because of the fact that mesh tape is porous, it will be able to provide you with a much smoother finish after applying the mud or cement.

Remember these tips and you can be sure that you will have a professional looking finish whenever you install drywalls in your home.

We all want our homes to look beautiful inside and out. This is why a lot of people try to finish their own drywall in order for them to make sure that the quality of the finish is almost perfect and also make sure that the work that is put in the finishing is of good quality and there are no shortcuts.

However, if you are a first timer in doing drywall finishing jobs, you will find it difficult to do. In fact, finishing drywall is not easy to do that it takes years before you get pretty good at finishing drywall.

Basically, the key to a perfect drywall finishing is practice. Practicing this skill will allow you to become really good at finishing drywalls. With practice, you can be sure that you will be able to get that professional quality finish for your drywall and really have a flawless finish that will make your home look a lot better.

You need to remember that the process is very easy to explain and do but it will be you who will need to get a specific feel whenever you are applying the mud and finishing the drywall properly. What this means is that you will be the one to observe and feel if you did a proper job with the finishing.

So, here are the step by step instructions on how to properly finish your drywall.

After installing the drywall and getting it ready for finishing, the first thing that you need to do is to start applying the drywall tape to the joint seams. One good trick in doing this is to apply fiberglass tape for the flat seams and paper drywall tape on the corners.

Basically, the fiberglass drywall tape has a self sticking adhesive. This means that it can be rolled on before the drywall mud is applied. For the paper drywall tape, you will need to have a layer of drywall mud applied first before you apply the tape.

After applying the fiberglass tape, you can now apply the drywall joint compound. It is highly recommended that you use a 5 inch drywall trowel for this. For finishing drywall seams, you may want to try using a 12 inch cement trowel as it will allow you to spread more drywall joint compound on the seems for the first application.

After the first application, let the joint compound dry before you apply the next layer. To put it in simple terms, you will continue on spreading the mud evenly until the seams are flat and are now unnoticeable.

For that flawless finish, you can sand the area where you applied the drywall joint compound in order to smoothen it and get it ready for painting.

These are the step by step instructions on how you can get that professional finishing for your drywall. Always remember that you may not get this right the first time but with practice, you will be able to get that professional finish you always wanted to achieve.

Its really frustrating if water damages our drywall. Not only that it leaves ugly water stain marks on the wall but it can also cause mold to develop, which can be very dangerous to your health. Drywall molds are black molds that can cause a lot of harm on your overall well-being. In fact, it can cause respiratory illnesses, such as bleeding of the lungs and other serious health conditions.

Water damage to drywall is commonly the result of roofing and plumbing leaks. It may seem harmless but this kind of damage to your home is a project that you should take seriously and prioritize. If you are trying to spot water damage on your drywall, you can simply look for bulging, sagging, discoloration, and cracks. These things indicate water damage on your drywall.

You need to keep in mind that water can easily drip and run along interior pipes. So, it is very important that you should look for damage on both the ceilings and the walls. Also, you should keep in mind that you shouldnt be surprised to find damage that is far away from the leak.

If you only find small cracks, the water damage can be very easy to fix. All you need to do is get a ready mixed spackling compound and apply it on the crack with a putty knife. You can also apply a strip of fiberglass mesh tape, which can strengthen the area where the putty can be applied. However, if you find a much larger damage than a simple crack, then you will be required to do more structural work.

The first step in repairing large portions of water damage in your drywall is to remove all the materials that have been affected. Cut the area of the drywall where the water soaked. In fact, the drywall may already be crumbling. If not, you may need to use a jigsaw or a drywall handsaw to cut away the damaged part of the wall. Always be on the lookout for molds and mildew. If you find molds and mildew clinging on the drywall, then this part of the drywall cannot be saved and should be removed immediately. Also, all the surfaces should be thoroughly cleaned.

After removing the damaged part, you first have to let the area dry completely before you start patching in the holes. Use a high powered fan and a dehumidifier if possible to let air circulate and reduce the moisture content in the air. Allow to dry for at least 12 hours. Also, you have to make sure that the leak has been fixed and that the area where you are going to do the repairs is moisture free.

When the area is already completely dry, the next step is to replace the damaged part with a piece of drywall that is fitted and blended in to the existing wall in order for it to become unnoticeable. There are water resistant drywalls available today and this is basically the best type of drywall that you can use for repairing or replacing water damaged drywall.

For larger holes, you will need a plywood backer board in order to have a place to fasten the replacement drywall. After securing the patch, the next step is to applying fiberglass drywall tape and covered with drywall mud. After the mud has cured, the next step is to sand the joints in order to ensure a flat and smooth finish and get it ready for painting.

These are the basics of repairing a water damaged drywall. As you can see, it is relatively easy to repair water damaged drywall.

We know about that green spots growing on your old sandwich bread, but did you know that you can also get fungi to grow on your drywall? If you see that black stuff growing on your drywall that looks a bit like that green stuff growing on your old or stale bread then you definitely have a big problem. This basically means that your home is providing great conditions for mold to grow.

Although these things dont really look harmful, but you have to remember that the black fungus growing on your drywall isnt only ugly but is also dangerous. All molds can be eliminated immediately and are not as harmful as the black mold. If you suspect that this kind of mold is lurking and growing on your walls anywhere in your home, it is in your best interest to remove it immediately as drywall molds is a very serious matter.

Once you locate where the black mold is growing and thriving, the first step is to protect yourself. The reason for this is that breathing in this stuff can be poisonous to your body. In fact, black mold can cause respiratory problems and it can even be as serious as bleeding of the lungs. It can cause headaches, nausea, dizziness and other serious health problems.

Before you start removing drywall molds, try to invest in a pair of rubber gloves, eye goggles and good pair of respirator mask. These things will prevent you from inhaling black mold.

The next step in getting rid of the black mold or drywall mold is to seal off the contaminated room. You dont want the spores of the fungus to become airborne while you work, which can spread to other rooms. Use a plastic sheet and duct tape to seal off the room you are working in. Also, you have check the surrounding walls, ceiling and floors as it is not uncommon for fungus to spread in nearby areas.

The bad news is that the moldy wall cannot be saved. The reason for this is that the material cannot be penetrated below the area surface, which means that the fungus below the surface of the material or the drywall cannot be removed. Disinfecting the area will not work. This basically means that you have to cut the infected area with a utility knife. Once you cut off the infected area, the next step is to dispose of it in a sealed trash bag and remove it from your home.

The next step is to clean the surrounding areas using a product that is designed for mold removal. Use only a light touch of the product in order to avoid surface damage. You also have to avoid using bleach as it cannot penetrate below the surface of the material.

After disinfecting the material, the next step is to dry the areas thoroughly. If its one thing that you dont want, its allowing the mold to re-grow on wet surfaces.

After you have completely dried the treated material, the next step is to get rid of all traces of the fungus. After that, you can easily patch the surface where you removed a part of the drywall.

You have to keep in mind that if a large area of your drywall is affected by mold, the best way to get it removed is by hiring a professional and have the entire wall replaced. This may seem like a costly solution but always remember that whats at stake here is your health.

You have to face the fact that we spend a lot of money in order for our home to look as good as it possibly can. However, there are unavoidable circumstances where we get problems with our home. One such problem is leaks, which can cause drywall water damage.

This can be a very serious problem as it can really ruin the wall of your home. Drywall water damage can be caused by leaks or flooding, which can lead to very costly repairs. However, you have to consider that there are ways on how you can fix this kind of problem. So, here are some tips, which will be able to help you solve drywall water damage without spending too much money.

For starters, you have to determine where the leak is coming from and get it fixed or fix it yourself. You need to keep in mind that fixing your water damaged drywall will be useless if it is going to be damaged again by water from leaks that you didnt fix. It can be very frustrating in your part if you get the water damaged drywall fixed only to have it ruined again by the same leak.

When looking for the leak, you need to remember that it is very possible that the leak will not come from the wall. In fact, it may come from the ceiling where the water can travel down the wall.

After getting the leak fixed, the next step is to fix the water damaged drywall. You first need to cut out the damaged part of the drywall in order to begin some air circulation. You may want to use a strong fan to assist with the air circulation as this can be good for air movement and drying. A dehumidifier inside the room or within the area is a great way to reduce moisture content, which can help with the drying process.

It is very important that you should monitor the drying process closely in order for you to avoid dangerous mold to grow on the wall within 24 to 48 hours if the drying process isnt complete. Usually the wall will be mostly dry within 12 hours. If it isnt, cut a larger hole and make sure that the fan is properly placed so that you can achieve proper air circulation on the wall, which will be able to assist in the drying process.

You have to remember that if mold grows on your wall your project will become larger as molds can be very difficult to remove.

However, if you find mold in your project, you should never touch it. Touching it will lead to letting it spread more quickly. Try to contact a mold restoration professional to assist you with the removal of the mold and spores as they have the proper tools and know about the proper techniques in order to remove the mold from your wall.

After everything is already dry and the water leak is already fixed, the next step is to replace the drywall and any studs that are damaged by water. A plywood backer may be needed to cut a large hole and you have to be sure that you wear a protective mask to begin the process of repairing the wall. The chemicals and dust can harm your lungs if you inhale it.

Then, you have to nail in the patch with a water resistant drywall patch to the backer board. After that, you have to place joint compound over the joints and allow it to dry. After the joint compound dries, you have to sand for a smooth finish.

After this process, you can now tape the joint where the drywall comes together with the existing wall by using a drywall tape. Once the edges are smooth and dry, you can now paint the fixed area to match the rest of the wall.

These are some of the tips that you should follow when fixing a water damaged drywall. Remember these tips and you can be sure that you will be able to fix your drywall and make it look like new again.

We all know how unattractive blemished walls are in the home. No matter how great the wall looks with its textured finish, a hole in the drywall can eventually ruin everything. And, the bad news is that this is something that you can never really avoid. Time will come that you will have a hole somewhere in your homes wall, which will need some patching up.

The good news about this particular problem is that it is really easy to fix and make it look like that the hole wasnt even there in the first place

You may need to patch up a hole in your drywall that was the result of getting the piping fixed in your kitchen.

There are basically a lot of causes of holes in the drywall. So, here are some of the things that you can do to fix this type of drywall nightmare.

First off, you will need the proper materials in order for you to efficiently and professionally patch up the hole in the drywall. You will need a joint compound, a drywall tape, orange peel texture, wood screws, drywall, and also some type of scrap wood or simply some plywood.

For the tools, you will need a drill, a putty knife, a sander, and a drywall saw.

First of all, you have to take the drywall saw and cut out the debris. This will help you remove the debris that was accidentally put through the wall. Start around the edge of the damaged area and cut a square sized hole to remove the damaged drywall.

The next step is to cut a piece of wood that is about the same size of the hole you cut on the wall. Just give it a little room on the sides in order for you to put your hand in to hold the wood in place when screwing it. After doing this, you now need to place it in the hole and screw the piece of wood above the hole. Do the same for the opposite corner for both corners at the bottom of the hole.

Then, you will now be able to place a piece of drywall you cut over the wood that you recently fastened on the wall. This will set the drywall in place by screwing it on all four sides. This is the hard part.

After doing this, all you need to do is make the fix unnoticeable. To do this, just get a putty knife and dig out a little compound. Then, press the compound in to the cracks that you see around the newly fixed piece of drywall. After this, you can now get your drywall tape and cut it in to lengths that you need in order for it to cover all the four sides of the cut.

These are the basics on fixing a drywall hole. By following these steps, you will be able to fix your drywall and make it look as if nothing happened. Through these tips, you can fix any hole in your drywall and make it look as if the hole wasnt even there in the first place.

Before you consider painting your drywall, you have to remember that this is a fairly specialized task. However, if you have the proper equipments or tools and do the necessary preparations, you will find that it can be achieved by nearly everyone.

When painting drywall, you have to know about the step-by-step process in doing it properly. If you neglect to do at least one of the processes, you will end up with a painting job that looks quite amateurish.

The first step in painting drywalls is by making sure that the weather is not too humid and it should be fairly warm. You also have to make sure that the surface or the drywall you are planning to pain is dry, free from oil and grease, and that it is completely clean.

You also have to apply 3 coats of joint compound on the drywall and the joints between the panels should be taped with fiberglass or paper mesh tape or drywall tape. By doing this, you will ensure that the joint gets surfaced over. You also have to make sure that you fill in any cracks or marks using the same method.

You also have to clean the walls and ceilings that you intend on painting by wiping off the dust. Do this before priming. After the prime coat has dried, the next step is to sand the surface lightly with a fine grit sandpaper. This will enable you to smooth any imperfections, and raised fibers as well as rough chips. Always keep in mind that you need to wear goggles and mask as the gypsum dust produced when sanding drywalls can be very irritating to the eyes and is known to cause breathing problems.

You should also take care in removing dust from the top of your doorway as well as in the window trims. You also have to use drop cloths in order to protect finished flooring as well as doors, windows, and other fixtures. It is highly recommended that you use a painters plastic to do this.

You need to keep in mind that after you taped the drywall and sanded it, you shouldnt allow the drywall to sit too long. The sunlight can cause the drywall to yellow and fade. In fact, it can look uneven even after painting it. Use a good quality latex stain-killing paint before you prime it in order to fight the yellowing process.

Two coats of paint should be enough. On the first coat, use a low sheen, latex flat wall paint. This should be tinted to match the color of the top coat. For the top coat, use two coatings of gloss paint, which includes eggshell and satin paint. This will leave you with a finish that is easy to wash and one that is not prone to smudges and marks. For the roof, flat paint is a good option.

Always remember that with the proper equipments and preparation, you will be able to have a professional looking finish when painting your drywall.

First of all, drywall is basically a popular term for prefabricated plaster wall panels. These panels are usually very easy to install but you need to remember that you have to do it properly in order for you to avoid encountering problems that can lead to costly and time consuming repair.

This is why you have to know how to avoid the common mistakes that is usually associated in installing drywalls. This will help in saving yourself the headache of redoing the entire job all over again, which can be very costly and can really lead you to have a very big headache.

So, here are some tips that will enable you to avoid the common mistakes in installing drywall and save a lot of time and money on repairs.

The first tip will concern the surface on which you will install the drywall on. The walls should be flat and the framing should be straight at right angles. You also have to remember that the studs or rafters that are bowed should be planed first in order to flatten them before you work on them.

To test if the wall is flat and straight, get a piece of string and stretch it across the walls in order to make sure that the studs are all on the same plane. If it is not, plane it again and check again.

When cutting the prefabricated plaster wall panels or drywalls, you will find that it is very simple to do as it doesnt involve any sawing in order to separate it. You also dont need to cut all the way through the drywall. Doing so will only result to a prematurely-dull utility knife and a scratched surface underneath.

The proper way to cut drywalls is by drawing a line across the panel. Make sure that the line you draw is completely straight. This can be achieved by using a drywall T-square. Then, you have to score down this line just deep enough to cut through the backing paper. After doing this, all you need to do is lift the panel and snap it right down the line or the guide. To complete the cut, you can then slice through the remaining layer of backing paper and you have to smoothen any rough edges.

You also have to keep in mind that it is very common for people to go overboard when they apply the joint compound or the mud when it comes to taping or mudding the drywall. Always keep in mind that you should never work the joint too much and at a very early stage.

A great way to do this is by first applying the tape and spread a thin layer of compound over the tape to embed it. Then, you have to leave it to dry before you scrape it slightly to level any high spots. You can apply a second layer if it is necessary or if the first layer isnt enough.

These are the proper ways on how you can properly install drywalls on your home. By following these tips, you can be sure that you will be able to avoid costly mistakes in drywall repair.

When installing drywalls today, you will see that most people use screws. However, there are still quite a lot of people who install drywalls using nails. This can work but the problem with nails is that it is known to become loose and pop out through the surface.

Popped out nails aren’t only unpleasing to look at but it can also be dangerous, and can cause injuries. This is why you have to get popped out nails. In some cases, you will find popped nails around the edge of ceilings and also on external walls. These spots are where extreme temperatures can directly affect the wood and the metal. You have to consider the fact that extreme temperatures have different effects on wood and metal. It can cause the heads of the nails to get a small amount of condensation, which can lead to rust, which will discolor the attached spackling. It will also discolor the drywall material, which you really don’t want to happen.

The rust can even get the material on the head of the nail to fall of entirely.

There are also cases where nails may pop if the house has settled somewhat over time. If you do suspect that your home has settled too much or too quickly, it is very important for you to contact your local home inspector as this can mean structural damage to your home. If structural damage is present, it is important for you to get this fixed first before you concern yourself with the cosmetic issues of popped nails on your drywall.

You have to remember that you cannot fix a popped nail by just tapping it in back in the wood. You have to remember that the nail hole will be slightly oversize and this cannot be fixed. If you just tap the nail back in, it will move again later and get popped out again. The key to repairing popped nails on your drywall is to find a way to hold the nail securely and one of the simplest and most effective as well as popular ways to do this is by using another nail.

When driving your new nail in to the wood behind, you first need to drive a drywall nail next to the popped nail. This will get the new nail’s head overlap the top of the old one or the popped one. After doing this, you can now drive the nails to a slight dimple. You can test that the nails are already driven far enough by using a metal putty knife and dragging it across the nail. If you feel that the nail heads are dragging, you can simply drive them in a bit more.

The next step is to fill the dimple you made on the wall. You can use color changing fillers. The bright pink ones are very popular as it changes to white when it dries. Through these steps, you will be able to finish the jobs in two or three coats. You should remember to give it a slight sanding between applications.

These are the things that you should remember when repairing popped nails in your drywall. With these tips, you will be able to repair popped nails in your drywall and give a professional looking finish.
